It’s time to give back a bit.

A new batch of marketers will enter the work force in a few weeks. They are facing one of the toughest job markets in recent history. If they find a job, they will be expected to deliver results quickly. We’ve been around the block a couple of times, so why not help them out. Please leave your best tip or tips. It may make a difference in someone’s life.

I’ll kick it off.

Learn how everything works together as quickly as possible. Find disconnects that reduce marketing effectiveness and offer solutions to fix them. When you know what needs to be done, are willing to do it, and provide meaningful solutions, you make yourself more valuable to the organization.

Today I exercised my right and responsibility as a US citizen. After careful consideration of each candidate, I voted. It is a tradition that began when I turned eighteen and has continued with every primary and general election. Each opportunity to cast my ballot is special because:

• I don’t have to risk life or limb to choose my leaders
• I have a say (albeit a small one) in the people who will make decisions for my country
• I remember the people who fought and are still fighting to keep our country free

Thank you to everyone who has served or is serving our country. I appreciate your commitment to our freedom.

I will continue to show that appreciation by researching the candidates and voting for the ones most committed to preserving our freedom and values.

There’s something more than coffee brewing in our office. I’m so excited that I’m on pins and needles, dying to tell you about it, but I can’t until next week. There are those in my office that say that the pins and needle feeling come from the coffee I’ve been mainlining this week, but they’re wrong! I need the coffee to keep me warm because some people think sunshine means you have to turn the AC on even when it’s 30 degrees outside.

The best thing about January 1 is the opportunity to start with a clean slate and make it the best year of your life. This year has a bonus because it is the start of a new decade. Where do you want to be in ten years? Everything is changing so fast it is impossible to predict what will happen in the next decade, but one thing is certain – you don’t want to look back and say “what do I have to show for the last ten years?”

The best way to make it a great decade is to use your voice to celebrate life and encourage others. In a world of political correctness and shock jocks, authenticity and niceness is increasingly rare and much more valuable. Share your story, your ideas, and your passion with your unique perspective and a smile. Become an adventurer and try something new every month, week, or day (choose your own pace).

I intend to follow my own advice. In the weeks to come, I’ll share my adventures and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. I hope that you’ll share yours, too. Why not start now? What are you planning for 2010 that you’ve never tried before?
